4-H leaders need support and leadership development in order to provide quality educational programming for youth - educational programming that is provided in a fun and safe learning atmosphere - and provides experiences that teach youth valuable life skills. |

What was done |
Extension Educator has provided in-depth training in various settings - one-on-one, board support and guidance, formal 1st year volunteer/leader training, newsletters and supporting leader information concerning a variety of subjects. Developing life skills of the volunteer/leader base enhances their ability to provide valuable learning experiences for youth and gives the volunteer an opportunity for individual growth. |

Impact |
based on recent survey results of Marion County 4-H volunteers for Franklin, Lawrence, Beech Grove and Perry townships, horse & pony, stamp collecting and horse & pony projects, the survey respondents answered that the 4-H program had moderate or major influence on their life skill development in the following ways:
*73.6% in leading a group *73.6% in making decisions *68.3% in resolving group conflict *78.8% in working in a team *84.1% in planning and organizing *84.1% in solving problems *73.6% in motivating a group *68.4% in keeping records *73.6% in talking in front of a group *73.6% in volunteering *73.6% learning through community service *73.6% having a positive self image additional comments made by survey participants: *"The Marion County 4-H Program was very helpful in developing the ability to speak before a large group of people." *Keep trying because development is only evident after it is developed." |
